The adidas Predator Timeline 1994 - 2024
adidas Predator Cup (1994)
The original adidas Predator revolutionized football boots with its innovative rubber fins, inspired by table tennis technology. Craig Johnston, a former footballer, developed the concept to enhance ball control and swerve. Its bold, animalistic design was unlike anything seen before, and it became an instant hit on the pitch. Despite being heavier, the adidas Predator quickly became a favorite among players seeking better grip and power.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the icon in 2024, adidas launched a Limited Edition remake of adidas Predator Cup from 1994.
adidas Predator Rapier (1995)
Building on the success of the original, the adidas Predator Rapier refined the concept with reduced rubber fins for a sleeker look. This model introduced the fold-over tongue, a design element that would become iconic in future adidas Predator boots. It was more streamlined and offered better flexibility, allowing for a more natural feel on the ball. The Rapier set the stage for the evolution of the adidas Predator line.
adidas Predator Touch (1996)
The adidas Predator Touch introduced a distinctive red fold-over tongue, which became a hallmark of the series. This model was lighter than its predecessors, making it more agile on the field. David Beckham famously wore the adidas Predator Touch, helping to cement its place in football history. The design focused on enhancing ball touch and control, making it a popular choice among playmakers.
adidas Predator Accelerator (1998)
The adidas Predator Accelerator is often regarded as one of the most iconic adidas Predators ever made. It featured a striking wavy design, asymmetrical lacing for a cleaner strike zone, and an anatomical outsole for a more comfortable fit. This boot was worn by stars like Zinedine Zidane and helped adidas solidify the Predator's legendary status in the football world.
A few years ago, adidas made a remake of the adidas Predator Accelerator.
adidas Predator Precision (2000)
The adidas Predator Precision introduced a Velcro piece to hold down the fold-over tongue and smaller, more integrated rubber fins. It also featured interchangeable metal studs, allowing players to customize their grip on different playing surfaces. This boot was all about precision and control, reflecting the evolving demands of modern football.
Back in 2017, adidas launched a Limited Edition remake of the adidas Predator Precision that revived the early 2000s.
adidas Predator Mania (2002)
Arguably the most iconic adidas Predator of all time, the adidas Predator Mania featured elasticated tongue straps, an external heel counter, and more refined rubber fins for better ball control. Its design was sleek and modern, with a focus on both performance and style. The Mania became a cultural phenomenon, worn by countless football stars and adored by fans worldwide.
The adidas Predator Mania boots have had a lot of remakes in different colourways over the years, but the adidas Predator Mania in ‘Champagne’ colourway is one of our favourites.
adidas Predator Pulse (2004)
The adidas Predator Pulse introduced the "PowerPulse" technology, which added weight to the front of the boot to enhance shot power. The rubber elements were scaled down, but the focus on improving shot accuracy remained. This model was all about balance, combining power with precision in a sleek package.
adidas Predator Absolute (2006)
Featuring liquid rubber strips for added grip, the adidas Predator Absolute maintained the PowerPulse element from its predecessor. It had fewer rubber fins, giving it a cleaner look, and focused on delivering consistent performance. This model continued the adidas Predator's legacy of innovation while paying homage to its roots.
adidas once made a crazy pair called adidas Predator Archive, which was a mix of old adidas Predators, including the adidas Predator Absolute.
adidas Predator PowerSwerve (2007/2008)
The adidas Predator PowerSwerve introduced tungsten powder for dynamic weight distribution, enhancing shot power and control. It also featured smart foam for better ball contact and an external heel counter for stability. This boot was designed for players who wanted to dominate the game with power and precision. Fun fact is that according to some sources it was released in 2007 - and others say 2008.

adidas Predator X (2009)
A significant departure from previous models, the adidas Predator X dropped the tongue and rubber fins in favor of a more minimalist design. It introduced a power spine for foot stability but faced criticism for its use of Taurus leather, which some found less durable. Despite the mixed reviews, it marked a new direction for the adidas Predator line.
adidas Predator AdiPower (2011)
The adidas Predator AdiPower brought back the rubber fins and introduced a lightweight SprintFrame outsole for better speed and agility. It featured a softer Taurus leather upper, providing a comfortable fit without sacrificing control. This model was a blend of classic adidas Predator elements with modern football boot technology.

The HyperTouch synthetic upper provided a responsive touch, making this adidas Predator ideal for players who rely on their skill and control.
adidas Predator LZ II (2013)
The adidas Predator LZ II refined the Lethal Zones concept, making the five distinct zones even more pronounced and effective. The boot featured an updated HybridTouch upper for a more comfortable fit and better ball feel. It was designed to provide a perfect balance between control, swerve, and power, catering to versatile players on the pitch. The LZ II continued to build on the adidas Predator’s reputation as a boot for technical players.

adidas Predator Instinct (2014)
Building on the Lethal Zones concept, the adidas Predator Instinct added grip spikes under the outsole for better traction. This model marked the end of the adidas Predator line for four years, as adidas moved towards other technologies. The Instinct was a fitting finale, offering a combination of power, control, and innovation.
