All You Need To Know About The EURO 2024 Groups and Teams
Welcome football enthusiasts, fans and admirers! The countdown to EURO 2024 has begun, and Unisport are ready to guide you and make you an expert about the different groups and teams. Buckle up as we dive into the details about the groups and the teams participating at EURO 2024.
Quick overview of the EURO 2024 groups
At EURO 2024, there are six groups with four teams in each group - that means, we have 24 teams competing for the EURO trophy. The top two countries in each of the six groups are qualifying for the Round of 16. The four best third-place teams are also qualifying for the Round of 16. From then it is the Knock-out stages, where each match is “Win, or you are out!”, as we also know it from Champions League.
- The six groups are as follows:
- Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland
- Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
- Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
- Group D: Poland, Netherlands, Austria, France
- Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine
- Group F: Türkiye, Georgia, Portugal, Czechia
Group A, B and C are all filled with teams who booked their ticket to EURO 2024 via the EURO Qualification. However, Group D, E and F are a mix of teams from the EURO Qualification and the EURO Play-off tournament, where Poland, Ukraine and Georgia secured their spot at the EURO 2024.
Let’s dive into each one of the groups and their teams below.
Group A - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group A includes Germany, Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland.
Germany
Germany are the hosts of EURO 2024, and therefore they automatically qualified for the tournament and they also get to kick off the tournament on the 14th of June against Scotland. Germany has not been at their greatest form in recent years, lately illustrated by them getting knocked out in the group stage in Qatar in 2022. Thus they have a lot to revenge on at this EURO - and what better way to do that than on home ground? We are sure that players like İlkay Gündoğan and Manuel Neuer will do everything they can - especially the latter, since this probably is the last chance for the legendary goalkeeper to win the EUROs.
Star Players: Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Leroy Sané.Find your next Germany shirt here.
Scotland
Scotland booked their ticket to EURO 2024 in a comfortable manner, as they showed impressive form during the Qualification by beating Spain once and only conceding 1 loss - also to Spain. The Manchester United ace Scott McTominay was a great goal-getter for the Scottish team, and managed to find the net 7 times, leading to a 5th place on the Top Scorer list behind names, such as Kane, Mbappé, Ronaldo and Lukaku. Therefore we are looking forward to seeing if the Scottish team this summer can beat their so far best achievement at the EUROs and advance from the group stage.
Star Players: Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and John McGinn.Find the EURO national team shirts here.
Hungary
Hungary are also a team you should keep an eye on, as they won their Qualification group in convincing style with 5 wins, 3 draws and 0 loses - but to be fair, it was not the most difficult group in the Qualification stage. Nevertheless the games still needed to be won, and here they are - looking to duplicate their performance from EURO 2016, where they actually won their group ahead of teams like Portugal (the later winner of EURO 2016). Add to that, Hungary now have some very interesting players, such as their captain Dominik Szoboszlai from Liverpool, and this team could easily create some surprises this summer.
Star Players: Dominik Szoboszlai, Milos Kerkez and Willi Orbán.Find your Hungary shirt right here.
Switzerland
Switzerland are attending their sixth EURO tournament this summer, and hopefully they can continue their performances from the EURO 2020 (played in 2021). Back then, they set a new record for advancement of a Switzerland team at the EURO’s, as they got knocked out in the Quarter-final by Spain. If things add up, they might meet Spain again in the Round of 16 at this year’s EURO and could get revenge. But it will require a good performance from Switzerland to advance from this exciting Group A - maybe Switzerland's captain Granit Xhaka is able to inspire his teammates, after the extraordinary season he has had with Bayer Leverkusen.

Group B - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group B includes Spain, Croatia, Italy and Albania.
Spain
It is now more than a decade since Spain won the EURO’s last time in 2012. At that time, the names were Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and . Even though the last one of those three amigos potentially could get called up for this EURO 2024, the new Spain team are in somewhat of a transitional stage and still trying to find the new bearing forces that can lead them to glory. And don’t get this wrong - there is a lot of talent on the Spanish team, which their semi-final spot at the EURO 2020 (played in 2021) showed. But many of the players are still young and have lots of potential and growth ahead of them. Maybe they can already do something spectacular this year?
Star Players: Rodri, Pedri and Lamine Yamal.Find your Spain Home and Away shirt now.
Croatia
Croatia has won many hearts in the world of football in recent years. Since their finalist spot in Russia in 2018, they have been seen as a top tier national team. Besides winning the silver medal in 2018, they also managed to win bronze in Qatar in 2022. But if you pay close attention, Croatia have actually not been doing as great at the EUROs. Even though they have qualified for the EUROs six times in a row now, Croatia have never made it past the Quarter finals - and the last time they made it to the Quarter finals was in 2008. With the age of some of their key players in mind, this EURO might be the last time (at least for some time), they have a good chance of winning silverware at the EUROs.
Star Players: Luka Modric, Joske Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic.Get your Croatia national team shirts here.
Italy
The reigning champions of Europe are back to defend their title. Having not participated in Qatar in 2022, the Italian team has a lot of hunger for this year’s EUROs. With many of the key players in the middle of their 20’s, this Italy team might be worth keeping an eye on. Not only this year, but also for the coming international tournaments. This year, they are not seen as some of the top favourites for winning it all - but hey, who thought that back in 2021 and what happened there? All we say is that everything is possible!
Star Players: Nicoló Barella, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Federico Chiesa.Shop your Italy football shirts right now.
Albania
Albania must have thought “Oh God!”, when seeing the draw of the groups for EURO 2024. We do not expect Albania to progress from this group - not even through one of the third place spots. But… This is football, and anything can happen! And if you look at the Qualification stage, they won their group ahead of teams like Poland and Czech Republic. So this team is not to be underestimated, even though Group B is called “Group of death” due to the other three teams. If Albania makes it through, it will be the first time ever that they manage to advance from the group stages at a EURO tournament.
Star Players: Armando Broja, Kristjan Asllani and Berat Djimsiti.Cop your Albania national team shirts right here.
Group C - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group C includes Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia and England.
Slovenia
This is only the second time Slovenia has qualified for the EUROs (as ‘Slovenia’), and it is the first time since 2000. Back in 2000, where the EUROs were held in Belgium and the Netherlands, Slovenia didn’t advance from the Group stage after 2 draws and 1 loss. Thus the Slovenian team still has their first win at a European Championship in front of them - and maybe this is the year? They performed impressively through the Qualification stage, where they, like in this group, were competing with Denmark. So maybe they can continue their fine form and advance from Group C?
Star Players: Jan Oblak, Benjamin Sesko and Jaka Bijol.Find your EURO football gear here.
Denmark
Denmark was everyone’s darling at the last European championship, where they managed to go all the way to the Semi finals after an unreal start to the tournament. Back then, they lost to England in the Semi final, so the Danish team must have a lot to revenge on when meeting England again in this group. Since the EURO 2021 performance, Denmark have been somewhat of an underdog to win silverware in people’s minds, but they haven’t shown the same great form as they did in 2021 - latest exemplified by them getting knocked out at the Group Stage in Qatar in 2022. Once again, ‘revenge’ must be the overall headline that fills up the Danes’ minds, when going into EURO 2024.
Star Players: Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Højlund and Andreas Christensen.Shop your Denmark Home or Away shirt here.
Serbia
Serbia are attending their first EUROs ever (as ‘Serbia’) at this summer’s tournament after booking their spot through the Qualification stages. Therefore there is not much to report about previous achievements, and there will most likely not be too high expectations for the Serbian team, as they haven’t something to live up to from the past. And their Qualification wasn’t something that made everyone's eyes pop - so we can’t build some expectations based on that either. But… When looking at the Serbian team, you could get your hopes up, as they got some truly great players running around. So we are not going to rule them out anytime soon!
Star Players: Sergej Milinković-Savić, Dusan Tadic and Dušan Vlahović.Buy your Serbia football shirt right here.
England
If we could talk about revenge in Denmark’s situation - then we most certainly also have to talk about revenge, when focusing on England. The English team must hunger for revenge after they lost the final on home ground at the last EUROs. And if you look at the English team, it is no wonder that they are considered one of the favourites to win it all this summer! We could name players, such as Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane, Rice, Stones and Rashford - and the crazy thing is that England made it to the final in 2021 without a player like Bellingham playing an important role.
Star Players: Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.Collect your England football shirt now.
Group D - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group D includes Poland, The Netherlands, Austria and France.
Poland
Poland is one of the three teams that secured their spot at the EURO 2024 via the Play-off tournament, which was held in March 2024. Poland beat Estonia and Wales (in a thrilling penalty shootout) for the spot at EURO 2024, and are therefore ready for their fifth consecutive appearance at the EUROs. Their best performance at the EUROs so far is going to the Quarter finals, which was back in 2016. At EURO 2021, Poland only managed to get 1 point - we assume they expect more points this time!
Star Players: Robert Lewandowski, Wojciech Szczęsny and Piotr Zieliński.Get the Poland shirts today.
The Netherlands
The Netherlands are usually one of the favourites, when talking about who is able to win the EUROs. But it has actually been 16 years since the Dutch team last made it to the Quarter finals at the EUROs, so the Dutch team are looking to get back on track this summer. Looking at the squad - besides the key players listed below - they got one of the most hyped talents in the world in Xavi Simons, the former Golden Boy winner Matthijs de Ligt and a now experienced player in Memphis Depay. Thus the squad is looking strong and having a good balance between young and experienced players - so it won’t be too crazy to expect them to go to at least the Quarter finals this year, right? But will they make it? Only time will tell…
Star Players: Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie De Jong and Cody Gakpo.Find The Netherlands shirts here.
Austria
Austria will most likely fight with Poland for the 3rd place in this group - and hopefully, their amount of points is enough to make it through to the Round of 16. The Round of 16 stage is actually their best achievement so far at the EUROs, and that happened at the last tournament in 2021, where they got knocked out by Italy, the later winners of EURO 2020. Sadly for Austria, they are most likely going to play without their biggest star, David Alaba, as he is expected to come back from injury on the other side of the summer. So it will be interesting to see how they cope with that?
Star Players: Konraid Laimer. Marcel Sabitzer and Xaver Schlager.Shop Austria national team shirts now.
France
One of the top favourites for lifting the EURO trophy on the 14th of July in Berlin must be France - aren’t they always favourites? Silver medal winners in Qatar in 2022, Gold medal winners in Russia 2018 and Silver medal winners on home ground at the EURO 2016 - do we have to say more? Well, then we can say they even got a hunger for making up for the last EUROs, as they only made it to the Round of 16 at EURO 2020 (played in 2021). Even though they are in a sort of transformative period, as some of the key players from the past successes are out of the team now (such as N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane) - we expect France to be there, when the decisive stages kicks in.
Star Players: Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Eduardo Camavinga.Buy your France Home or Away shirt right here.
Group E - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group E includes Belgium, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine.
Belgium
Even though most of Belgium's golden generation are not playing at the same level as they used to (or maybe not even play on the national team anymore), the Belgian team still managed to qualify for EURO 2024 in convincing style, as they didn’t lose a single game during the Qualification stage. And now they have ended up in what most people think is the weakest group - so Belgium is a team we have to see in the knockout stages of EURO 2024. But how far can they get? Well, having made it to the Quarter finals at the past two EUROs, Belgium are considered an outsider for this summer’s EURO 2024. And with less pressure in the team compared to the years with the golden generation, it might be worth keeping an eye on Belgium this summer.
Star Players: Kevin de Bruyne, Jérémy Doku and Romelu Lukaku.Shop your Belgium national team shirts now.
Slovakia
Having qualified for the third time in a row, Slovakia are starting to become a familiar face at the EUROs. Before that Slovakia had never participated at the EUROs (as ‘Slovakia’). This time they qualified directly via the Qualification stages having only lost to Portugal and conceding 8 goals during 10 matches - so this Slovakian team might be someone who goes under the radar, but suddenly are part of the decisive stages. As mentioned above, this is probably the weakest group, so who knows?
Star Players: Milan Skriniar, Dávid Hancko and Stanislav Lobotka.Get EURO football shirts here.
Romania
Romania might not be on the list of favourites or even the list of outsiders, but… The Romanian team booked their ticket to EURO 2024 in a convincing matter as they ended up on top of their Qualification group without losing a single game - ahead of Switzerland. Just like Slovakia, this team knows how to defend, as they only conceded 5 goals in 10 matches during the Qualification stages. Romania's best ever achievement at the EUROs is going to the Quarter finals back in 2000 (back then, there wasn’t any Round of 16 - so they advanced from the Group directly to the Quarter finals). In 2021, Romania wasn’t qualified for the EURO’s - so it is difficult to know what to expect. But then they can only surprise us, which is nice, right?
Star Players: Radu Drăgușin, Nicolae Stanciu and Darius Olaru.Find Unisport’s EURO assortment here.
Ukraine
Ukraine was the second team to qualify via the Play-off tournament in March 2024 having been very close to booking their spot via the Qualification stage. In the Qualification, they ended on the same amount of points as Italy. But Italy had won their first match between the two, and then the two teams drew in the second match - leading to Ukraine needing to find their ticket via the Play-off instead. Here the Ukrainians won both matches with a scoreline of 2-1 against Bosnia & Herzegovina first and later on Iceland - and now they are ready for their fourth consecutive appearance at the EUROs. Last time, they made it to the Quarter finals - but how far will they progress this time? We’ll see!
Star Players: Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Artem Dovbyk.Explore Unisport’s big EURO Shop here.
Group F - EURO 2024
EURO 2024’s Group F includes Türkiye, Georgia, Portugal and Czech Republic.
Türkiye
Türkiye have not been as successful in recent years as they were back in 2008, where they made it to the Semi finals at the EUROs in Austria and Switzerland. They have only made it to the Group stage at the past two EUROs. But this summer, they might be able to advance, as they are in great form from their Qualification group, where Türkiye ended on top in front of teams like Croatia and Wales. And with new rising stars in the shape of Kenan Yıldız from Juventus and Arda Güler from Real Madrid, we are looking very much forward to seeing how Türkiye performs at EURO 2024.
Star Players: Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Orkun Kökçü and Enes Ünal.Shop your Türkiye shirts here.
Georgia
Georgia has for the first time ever qualified for a European championship, as they managed to book a spot via the Play-off tournament in March 2024. Firstly they managed to beat Luxembourg 2-0, and afterwards they duelled with Greece for the spot at EURO 2024 in a nerve wracking match that ended in penalty shootouts. The Georgian team might not be filled with stars, but they do have some interesting names to keep an eye on - most of all the so-called ‘Kvaradona’ from Napoli. It will be very interesting to see how Georgia performs at their first ever EUROs.
Star Players: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Georges Mikautadze.Shop EURO shirts here.
Portugal
Portugal are one of the top favourites for winning the EUROs this summer, just as they did in 2016. Not only do they have an incredible squad with superstar players, such as Rúben Dias, Rafael Leão and João Félix, a few more experienced players, like Pepe and João Cancelo, and young talents, in the shape of João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos - they also managed to win all 10 matches during the Qualification stage with a goal difference of +34. Looking at Group F for EURO 2024, it is not completely insane to suggest they might go unbeaten here too. These reasons are why people put Portugal in the top of their list of favourites - and we understand why!
Star Players: Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.Shop Portugal Home and Away shirts now.
Czech Republic
Czech Republic are as always to be found at the EUROs, as this is their eighth time in a row at the European Championship. Even though they don't have big stars as they used to - let us just take a moment to remind players such as Pavel Nedvěd, Petr Čech and Tomáš Rosický - then the Czech Republic still manages to qualify time after time. This time they qualified alongside Albania in front of Poland. At EURO 2020 (played in 2021), Czech Republic made it to the Quarter finals and Patrick Schick went on top of the Top Scorer list together with a certain number 7 from Portugal. If Schick can find the same level this time around, who knows how far the Czech Republic can go?
Star Players: Tomas Soucek, Patrick Schick and Adam Hlozek.
