The Portuguese national team, which also is called A Selecção das Quinas, has participated six times at the Euro's. They have never won the tournament. Their best result was back in 2004, where players such as Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Deco and Fernando Couto reached the Semifinal and won the silver medal. The shirt is single knitted in the areas where you need breathability the most and double knitted the areas where you need a more stronger structure. The construction method is so detailed, that the ventilations holes are directly implemented in the shirt from the beginning. The yarn has a textured upper and is also rich, which makes Nike able to use less yarn without the risk of the being transparent. As a result the Vapor shirts with AeroSwift technology are 10% lighter, 50% more stretch and dries 25% quicker than the earlier shirts. The new yarn also have a brushed quality, which makes it very comfortable against the skin. Nike Dri-FIT The shirt is made with Nike's Dri-FIT material. The Dri-FIT material is a breathable, quick drying lightweight material, that wicks sweat and moisture away from the body, so you always are kept dry and comfortable. It works by distributing sweat and moisture equally around the material and thereby increasing the body's natural chilling system. The shirt has mesh stripes, which runs along the side of the shirt. The mesh stripes are elastic and will expand when the player is in motion, and thereby the air ventilation will increase. Details that shows the pride of the Nation On the chest the iconic Nike Swoosh and the Portuguese football federation logo, Federação Portuguesa de Futebol, has been printed. In the neck "Portugal" has been knitted and in the sleeves, which can be rolled up, the text "Nação" and "Valente" is knitted, which means nation and brave. On the inside of the shirt, directly under the FPF logo, the armillary sphere can be seen. This, and the words in the sleeves, praises the Portuguese discoveries made in the 1500 and 1600's, as a result of the country's maritime discoveries. The armillary sphere has been used a personal badge by Manuel the first of Portugal back in the 1500's. But the use of the badge in document, monuments and flags went from a personal to a national symbol and nowadays the armillary sphere is seen in the Portuguese flag.
