David Beckham and Ryan Giggs on wings, as well as Andy Cole spearheading the attack, Manchester United were most definitely ready to compete for the English championship. The 1997/98 season was also the first one, without legendary Eric Cantona on the team sheet. David Beckham took over as the clubs number 7 and ended up becoming a Manchester United "Number 7 legend".
