Manchester City was founded in the 1800s, and are in recent years dominant in the Premier League and Champions League. Most remember the frenzied match in the Premier League's final round in which local rivals from Manchester United had won and were merely awaiting the outcome of the City match. Only Agüero scored in the overtime, securing “The Citizens” their first championship since the 1960s, simultaneously taking the championship from the Red Devils. In 2003, the first match was played at Manchester City's new home ground. The 2023/24 home ground jersey celebrates the Etihad Stadium at Ashton new Road. The graphics are drawn from the stadium's iconic features and inspired by the jersey worn in the first season on the new lawn carpet, with details marking the 20th anniversary of “The Citizens” at Etihad Stadium.
