The English national team, also called the Three Lions, is along their Scottish neighbors one of the oldest national teams. Back in 1872 Scotland and England played one of the first official national team matches. Much has happened since then, and for this summers UEFA Euro 2016 England is competing for the 9. time. England has not yet won the competition, with a third place in 1968 being the best result so far. The 1968 team featured stars like Bobby Moore, Gordon Banks and Sir Bobby Charlton. In 1996 England made it to the semifinals with players like Tony Adams, Paul Gascoigne and Alan Shearer. For this summers UEFA Euro 2016, England is determined to put in a good run - aiming at being the champions.
